To truly appreciate the commitment to excellence of this remarkable resort, stand back and look at the list of awards and accolades that La Costa Resort & Spa has received through the years, not only for its championship golf, but for its spa, meetings facilities, tennis and overall resort experience.
From its inception, La Costa was destined to be an elite stage for championship golf. Established in 1965, the resort became synonymous with the legendary champions in the game, who for nearly 40 years competed in prestigious events that shaped its legacy as an iconic golf venue.
Just as quickly, the resort established the reputation as a favorite retreat for celebrities. In the early days, club members included Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Dean Martin and Bing Crosby, who played alongside pals like Clint Eastwood and Andy Williams.
But it was the arrival of the PGA Tournament of Champions in 1969 that put La Costa on the world golf stage. The TOC, reserved only for current tour winners, presented a field at La Costa that for 30 years rivaled any tournament in the world. The list of champions reads like a “who’s who” in golf history, from Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player to Johnny Miller and Tom Watson.
Over the past five years both The Champions and Legends courses have been restored, embracing the integrity of the original Dick Wilson/Joe Lee designs, and creating two distinctive golf experiences. Polishing the luster of the classic courses has certainly returned La Costa to the world class standard for which it became famous.
